Kedarkantha is a mountain peak in Uttarakhand, India. 12,500 feet (3,800 meters) tall and is part of
the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarkashi district. The peak belongs to the Garhwal Himalayas
and Shivalik hills.
As you walk along the trail, you will see many different flowers, including Yellow Himalayan
Flax, Bauhinia variegata, Drumstick Primrose, rhododendrons, Himalayan wild strawberries,
Himalayan gentian, pink knotweed, white Himalayan lungwort, grand viburnum, and more. Most of
these wildflowers bloom in early spring, usually from late March to April.
Often during the trail you see birds such as the Himalayan snow cock, kala titar,
chakor, magpie, thrush, paradise flycatcher, parakeet, and bulbuls
The name Kedarkantha reflects the peak’s sacred link to Lord Shiva, inspired by local legends and
stories from the Mahabharata.
The trek usually for 5 days begins in Sankri, a village 6,500 feet above sea level . The route passes
through pine and oak forests in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, with beautiful views of snow-capped
mountains. The first campsite is at Juda-ka-Talab, a meadow at 9,000 feet. From there, trekkers
move to the Kedarkantha base camp before heading to the 12,500-foot summit.
At the summit, there is a stone-sheeted shrine of Lord Shiva, which is surrounded by snow-covered
mountains all around.
Overall, a mesmerising & everlasting experience to hold for a lifetime.
